the DC library

Mies van der Rohe was a fantastic architect: the grandaddy of 'less is more,' his glassy, steel structures are truly elegant.

Except the DC public library.

I disagree with the writer of today's commentary in the Post. It's a hulking building that does little for the area. I'm certainly not arguing cookie-culture architecture here, but it's dark, shadowy, and always seemed to me out of context for a library.

Mies was a master, don't get me wrong. But even the great ones misstep.
